NEW YORK, June 28, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ABM (NYSE:ABM), a leading provider of facility solutions, has initiated a comprehensive energy performance contracting program through its Technical Solutions group for 15 county-owned facilities in Newton County, Georgia. ABM's customized solution is projected to save Newton County more than $13.7 million in energy and operating costs over a 15-year period. The project launched last November and is scheduled for completion in April 2018.

Energy and operational savings will be achieved by implementing energy-efficient infrastructure upgrades to multiple facilities in the county, including the Newton County Detention Center, the Judicial Center, the Administration Building, the Historic Courthouse, the Public Works and Maintenance Building, the Fire Administration Building, two recreation centers and seven fire stations.

In each of the buildings, the solution has provided rejuvenated or upgraded HVAC systems and maintenance, lighting upgrades to efficient LED lighting systems, water conservation upgrades and new energy management systems.

The solution to replace or upgrade as much of the county's aging infrastructure as possible, without incurring upfront costs, was achieved through ABM's energy performance contracting program. This program is designed as a financial solution to meet clients' technical facility needs and sustainability goals. Its goal is to drive costs out of a client's operating budget, allowing savings to be reallocated to fund mission critical facility needs. Along with upgrading the infrastructure, the solution also allows the county to divert facilities department personnel efforts elsewhere. Prior to the solution, the county facilities department personnel spent a significant amount of time changing light fixtures. By upgrading to LED lighting technology, these employees will be able to dedicate their efforts toward more pressing issues.

• The Judicial Center HVAC, security and card access systems were updated to digital systems, and its sound system was upgraded for public hearings.
• About 7,900 lighting fixtures were upgraded to LED lighting systems across the county's facilities.
• The Detention Center roof was upgraded and insulated, and water use was cut by 37% after HVAC and kitchen equipment was upgraded.
