ABM Expands HVAC and Energy Solutions Presence in San Diego with Acquisition of Alpha Mechanical Service

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ABM (NYSE:ABM), a leading national provider of facility solutions, announced today that ABM Building Services, a business unit of ABM Building and Energy Solutions, has acquired the service assets of Alpha Mechanical, Inc. Alpha Mechanical is a leading provider of HVAC service, energy solutions, building controls, plumbing service and process piping in commercial, life science, education, military and municipal government buildings. Alpha Mechanical is headquartered in San Diego, CA and maintains operations throughout Southern California. The transaction closed on March 4, 2014.

For over 20 years, Alpha Mechanical has been a trusted mechanical partner throughout Southern California. Alpha's design and build construction business will continue to operate independently as Alpha Mechanical ("Construction Business"), which has been its core business since its inception in 1991. The service, energy efficiency and controls business ("Service Business") will now become part of ABM's national contractor network.

"Alpha Mechanical has built a strong service business over the last several years and I am excited to be part of ABM's nationwide service network and begin to utilize the Linc Service® operations model to deliver even better service to our clients. Our commitment to quality and customer excellence will only continue to be enhanced by this change," said Mark Swearingen, Alpha Mechanical's Chief Operating Officer, who will continue his leadership role as the Vice President and General Manager of ABM Building Services in San Diego.

ABM will continue to rely on Alpha Mechanical as a trusted partner for design build mechanical construction when required to support its clients in Southern California. With this acquisition, ABM is strategically positioned to broaden its existing vertical and geographic market offerings to support the company's vision of becoming the global leader in integrated facility solutions.

"We have a large number of existing ABM clients in the surrounding San Diego area and adding in-house specialists that deliver HVAC, energy solutions, and other technical services will be welcomed by our clients," said Carlos Murrieta, Regional Director of ABM Onsite Services. "They see the efficiencies gained from using ABM as their single service provider."

"We were looking for a partner to grow our service business and ABM was the obvious choice. My personal passion is construction, which is why I will continue to lead Alpha Mechanical and put the service business in the hands of ABM who specializes in service excellence. Our divesture of the service component of Alpha Mechanical is a win-win for our clients and both our companies," said Boris Barshak, President of Alpha Mechanical.
