ABM to Save the City of Temple Terrace Approximately $1.5 Million

NEW YORK, June 28, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ABM (NYSE:ABM), a leading provider of facility solutions, has signed an agreement to implement comprehensive infrastructure improvements through ABM's energy performance contracting program for the City of Temple Terrace in Florida.  ABM's customized solution will provide energy efficiency upgrades and facility enhancements to eight public buildings within the City and is guaranteed to save more than $1.46 million in energy and operating costs over a 15-year period. Project work began April 2016 and is scheduled to be completed October 2016.

ABM's energy performance contracting program is designed as a financial mechanism to meet clients' technical facility needs and sustainability goals. For ABM, the goal is to drive costs out of a client's operating budget, allowing savings to be reallocated to fund mission critical facility needs.

In the case of the City of Temple Terrace, ABM worked closely with city leaders to determine infrastructure needs, financial challenges and sustainability goals. Together they developed a financial program using the City's Community Investment Tax funds to procure more than $3 million worth of much-needed infrastructure improvements. By investing this money into energy-efficient upgrades, the City is creating energy and operations savings that will be used to help finance the upgrades without requiring additional taxpayer burden. These savings will also provide relief to the City's General Fund for many years to come. Plus, the annual amount of the program's energy savings, averaging more than $95,000 per year, will be monitored by ABM over the 15 years of the contract to ensure the full amount is received. ABM estimates that the operational savings, gained from reduced maintenance, emergency repair and replacement costs, will amount to more than $100,000 per year on top of the energy savings.

To develop this solution for Temple Terrace, ABM conducted an extensive audit of the City's public buildings. The audit revealed that 57 percent of the HVAC equipment surveyed was 15 years old or older with several units showing signs of deterioration. With a detailed list of the City's assets, their conditions and expenses, ABM was able to create an extensive project plan and financial solution to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and boost operations savings by upgrading HVAC equipment, adding state-of-the-art HVAC controls, installing energy-efficient LED lighting, fortifying building envelopes and more.

Lightfoot Senior Recreation Center, and Whiteway Water Treatment Plant & Well Field.

  • Installed 45 new HVAC units, which equates to 240 tons of cooling capacity.
  • Upgraded 1,600 lights to energy-efficient, long-lasting LED lighting.
  • Replaced leaking City Hall windows with impact-resistant, energy-efficient windows.
